Enforcing Wind, Solar, and Hydro Projects as ‘Must-Run’ may benefit developers

Renewable rich states usually curtails power due to transmission congestion issues and load dispatch center (LDC)’s efforts to keep frequency above 50.05 Hz. Developers are dismayed by such curtailments which in turn pressurizes debt repayments. Such curtailment also poses question on long term viability of projects.

Treating Wind, solar, wind-solar hybrid, and hydro projects as must run power project is likely to benefit solar and wind rich states power plants which are subjected to curtailment on account of merit order dispatch or any other commercial consideration.
