Solar component manufacturers facing tough times in Indian Market

Policy uncertainty and competition from foreign players has moved away interest of solar manufacturers in Indian market. Arising ambiguity of BIS certification of Inverters has slowed growth of the segment. Inadequate labs, lack of testing facilities and workforce, unreasonable costs of testing, absence of series guidelines, and confusion regarding MNRE notifications were some of the issues that have slackened development.

India is one of the largest growing solar markets, new programs like KUSUM, SKY, SRISHTI, is poised to boost the demand of string inverter in the market. Large scale battery energy storage systems (BESS) projects are yet to come. However, it is expected that this market will grow in the coming years with increasing penetration of renewable power to the grid. To catalyse development government must also make a more conducive environment coupled with healthy competition in the market
