Discoms to get assistance from SNA for implementation of rooftop

Phase II of Solar rooftop program is targeted to achieve 40 GW of capacity by 2020 where central financial support in the tune of ₹118.14 billion shall be provided. MNRE has advised discoms to take assistance of state nodal agencies for implementation of second phase of rooftop programme, where they would be developing a dedicated online portal where consumers can apply for rooftop and all the approvals can be given with transparency and same portal shall be further integrated with already existing state nodal agency portal named as SPIN. All the sanctions of capacity and fund release shall be done via portal. MNRE also advised discoms to undertake consumer awareness drive to publicize PHASE -II of rooftop programme. Subsidy is also devised to be routed through empanelled vendor after site inspection.

To further promote rooftop solar Feed in tariff for gross metering shall be approved by SERC at a tariff where consumers can get ROI @16% so that capital cost is recovered in 4-5 years.

Above initiative will motivate the consumers to go for rooftop solar,  also, DISCOMs will be benefitted by getting renewable energy at reasonable rates, which, in turn, will help in fulfilling their renewable energy purchase obligations (RPOs).
