In amid of COVID-19 power demand falls low

India is struggling to fight with COVID-19 pandemic situation, as per government directions all public places like malls, restaurants, offices, commercial spaces and factories are ordered to ramp down their operation. This resulted in less buying of power from discoms and a slump was observed in power purchase. Even spot prices at IEX fell below to Rs. 1.95 per unit. Demand from Industries has also dropped substantially. Low prices may support most of utilities for enhanced savings and an improvement in financial health by wiping off a large part of this financial loss. On the other hand dues of power generating companies may also increase as their payments are halted.
