In amidst lockdown situation, all the commissioning activities of renewable energy projects have come to a halt which troubled developers about late commissioning and imposition of late payment surcharge as per PPA. However, MNRE has provided a sigh of relief to developers by providing a blanket commissioning time extension for all renewable energy projects under construction in the country. Projects are granted a time extension for the projects amounting to the total period of the lockdown plus 30 days for normalization. MNRE has further made clear that for this blanket extension there would be no need for any case-to-case investigations. Also renewable energy projects, may also treat the lockdown due to the global Coronavirus pandemic as a ‘force majeure’ event and may consider granting appropriate time extensions because of the lockdown.
