GAIL Plans Floating RLNG Terminal

  • BS reported that Gas Authority of India Limited is planning to set up an FSRU (Floating storage, regas and unloading) terminal for regasified liquefied natural gas in the Krishna Godavari Basin followed by a land-based terminal once the floating version becomes a success.GAIL chairman BC Tripathi assured chief minister Mr N Kiran Kumar Reddy that the company would take active steps in this direction, according to an official press release.

  • It may be recalled that the chief minister had requested the petroleum ministry to establish an RLNG terminal through the AP Gas Distribution Corporation in which GAIL has 50% equity while remaining equity portion is held by the state government. The government’s move comes in the wake of shortage in natural gas supply to gas-fired power plants and other industries located on the Andhra sea coast.
