PWD Instructed to Remove Encroachments Before This Fiscal End

  • The Public Works Department has been instructed to remove all encroachments along water bodies in this district before the end of this financial year. This is in line with Chief Minister Jayalalithaa's directive to remove all such encroachements blocking water channels in the larger interest of farmers, District Collector U Sagayam said at a monthly review meeting. He said PWD enginees should coordinate with the revenue officials and remove encroachments without delay and also offered police assistance to carry out the task. PWD department says there are 1212 identified encroachments of which 602 have been removed. Sagayam in a press release asked revenue authorities to shift all Indian Made Foreign Liquor retail outlets from near educational institutions and places of worship with the help of police.
