PWD May Get DUAC Approval for Flyovers

  • With the Public Works Department (PWD) likely to get the Delhi Urban Arts Commission’s approval for creating a series of flyovers along Outer Ring Road and Ring Road soon, Delhiites can look forward to signal-free traffic movement along these routes in the coming years. These projects have been awaiting clearance from the commission for over two years now, officials said. “We have been asked to submit a series of documents to the DUAC, which is currently being done. We expect to get the green signal for these projects soon after that — probably next week. We will then prepare estimates for the projects, and call tenders for awarding work. The entire process will take six months,” said a senior PWD official. Members of the DUAC confirmed that they had asked the PWD to submit certain documents, and would give the green signal only after examining them.

  • The Outer Ring Road project involves making the stretch between Vikaspuri and Wazirabad signal-free. The project will be executed at a cost of Rs 2,200 crore. The project will be executed in four sections. While 3.3 km of the 4-km stretch between Vikaspuri and Meera Bagh will be elevated, it will be partially so for the 4-km Mongolpuri-Deepali Chowk stretch. Similarly, 2.6 km of the 4 km road between Madhuban Chowk and Mukarba Chowk will be elevated, and the stretch between Mukarba Chowk and Wazirabad will have three flyovers.Though the DUAC has approved a plan to construct a flyover between Shalimar Bagh and Wazirpur on the Ring Road, the PWD has decided to change the pillar design.
