Works to Lay Plastic Roads in City Begin

  • Following the directions of Tamilnadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, the scheme to lay plastic roads in Chennai was inaugurated at T Nagar  today.Speaking at the inauguration, city Mayor Saidai Duraisamy said these plastic roads would be strong..In a bid to prevent the roads in Chennai from frequently getting battered and bruised, the Chief Minister had ordered to lay plastic roads.This morning, the works were inaugurated at Lakshmanan Salai near G N Chetty Road at T Nagar by Saidai Duraisamy.

  • Vasudevan, principal, Madurai Thyagaraja College, explained the procedure involved in laying plastic roads. The function was attended by Corporation Commissioner Davidar and senior officials.One tonne of plastic will be mixed to nine tonnes of tar for laying the new roads. This will be high in quality and strong. 'With over 160 tonnes of plastic waste collected everyday across the city, we can lay roads at many places,' the Mayor said.Urging the contractors to work sincerely and honestly in laying plastic roads, he said, ';Corporation engineers should monitor them regularly'.He assured that city would be free from waste deposited on the roads soon, he added.
