Corporator Smells Scam in Three Road Contracts

  • Independent corporator in the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Ujjwal Keskar, has asked for the suspension of the tender of three roads, to be laid under the private-public partnership in Kharadi and Baner, for gross irregularities in the process.Addressing the media on Wednesday, he said that while the roads in Kharadi were to be developed by Goel Ganga Developers and Panchshil Infrastructure Pvt Ltd, the road in Baner was to be developed by Panchshil Infrastructure.

  • All three roads are 30 metres wide and are to be laid as per the norms of development plan (DP). The total budget allocated for these roads is almost Rs 100 crore. Keskar alleged that tenders did not come before the general body of the PMC, via the city improvement committee (CIC) for approval. Also, no proper reasons were given for selection of these three roads for developing under the PPP model. “The tenders were inflated by 15 per cent, along with advertisement rights on the roads, which is very odd,” he said. Keskar also questioned the waiving of 11 per cent supervision charges on these roads.Along with asking for cancellation of the tenders, Keskar also has lodged an official complaint with the Lokayukta of the state.
