Yamunanagar-Panchkula Highway Widening: NHAI Takes Net Route for Tender

  • Panchkula For the first time in the region, the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has floated an e-tender for widening the 104-km national highway from Yamunanagar to Panchkula to four lanes.The Yamunanagar-Panchkula national highway which passes through Barwala, Saha and Shazadpur is presently a two-lane road and as per NHAI, the road has to be built in almost three years. The total cost of the project is Rs 934.93 crore.According to NHAI, the new highway will have four bypasses - at Yamunanagar, Saha, Shazadpur and Dangeri Barwala. The highway will also have five flyovers, 14 major bridges, 34 minor bridges, four vehicular underpasses, one pedestrian underpass, two toll plazas, 29 bus bays, 18 major road junctions and 173 culverts for smooth movement of traffic.

  • “We have floated tenders online for the first time and to participate in the e-bid submission, it is mandatory for bidders to get their firm, consortium registered with e-tendering portal of the NHAI,” said a senior NHAI officer. “The last date of submitting the tender is February 1, and the opening and evaluation will be done through an online process.”He said that the construction work will be allocated to the successful bidder very soon and the firm will have to complete the work within 910 days after the allotment.According to the officer, there are already 31 per-qualified firms for the construction work.

  • This is for the second time that the NHAI has invited tenders for the construction work on the highway, as very few bidders had come forward when the tender for the work was floated.Surprisingly, NHAI has not increased construction cost of the project in the e-tender. Chandigarh NHAI Project Director Anil Kumar Dahiya said that the four-laning of Yamunanagar-Panchkula highway will be done on a build operate transfer (BOT) basis.“The road will be built similar to the Ambala-Zirakpur highway,” he said.The four-lane road will ensure better connectivity between Panchkula with other parts of state.
