Zirakpur Parwanoo road near completion

  • If you are planning a trip to Pinjore, Kalka and Himachal Pradesh, keep some change ready. You would have to pay toll tax on the Zirakpur-Parwanoo national highway stretch. And those waiting for a smoother drive on the four lanes by pass from Pinjore to Parwanoo will have to wait a bit because the project has been delayed.Work on the 28.69 km long four-lane Zirakpur to Parwanoo project  is almost complete. All it needs now is a safety clearance. The local office of the National Highway Authority of India has worked out the toll tax which is to be paid at Chandimandir.

  • According to the proposal, the toll charge at Chandimandir for cars would be 23 Rs, drivers of light commercial vehicles would have to pay 39 Rs, trucks would be charged 49 Rs while multipurpose vehicles would be charged 127 Rs. Understandably, local residents who have to cross the plaza everyday are not happy with the tax structure. A PIL has been filed in this regard. The four-lane project entails a cost of 295 cr Rs and the toll plaza will be operated by Jaiprakash Associates for 17 years.

  • Meanwhile, opening of the 11 km four-lane bypass from Pinjore to Parwanoo has been delayed due pending work on the stretch. The bypass is part of the Zirakpur-Parwanoo four lane projects, which was to open in the first week of Janaury. The bypass has been connected to the highway in Himachal Pradesh near the Timber Trail in Parwanoo. NHAI officials attribute the delay to inclement weather. However, authorities concerned say the bypass will be opened to the public soon. The four-lane by pass will cut down the time taken to reach Himachal Pradesh, besides; the journey would also be rendered beautiful by the picturesque locations en route. For people living in the border areas of Haryana and Himachal, this is great news. Commuters will also be able to skip traffic jams in the three towns of Pinjore, Kalka and Parwanoo.
